Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department members started cooking 800 pounds of pork around 4 a.m. Sunday, May 20; started serving at 11 a.m. and sold out by 2 p.m. — around 400 plates and 30 five-pound buckets. Several connoisseurs of eastern North Carolina barbecue dubbed it the best ever. “Thanks to all for the support of the Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department,” said Joie Spencer.
