James J. Podgorny

James “Jim” Joseph Podgorny, age 75, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Sunday June 24, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church of Washington and will be officiated by Father Brendan Buckler. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Jim was born in Erie, PA on September 22, 1942 to the late Teresa Agnes Lubomski Podgorny. On October 24, 1964 he married Judith Mae Straub. He served his country in the Air Force for 21 years then with the Department of Defense for the U.S. Government. Jim retired in 2004 and settled in the loving community of Cypress Landing in Chocowinity. He enjoyed golfing, boating and spending time with his wonderful children, grandchildren and friends.
Jim volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, St Vincent De Paul food pantry and supported families and those in need.
Jim will be remembered for his generosity, honesty, his strong moral compass, and mostly; bragging about his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Judy S. Podgorny of the home, three children, James Eric Podgorny and fiancée Tracey Joiner of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Teresa Podgorny Schoeb and husband John of Gainesville, VA, Michael Podgorny and wife Michelle of Haymarket, VA, four grandchildren, Holly Schoeb, Garrett Schoeb, Payton Podgorny, Aidan James Podgorny, and a cousin Audrey Osiecki of Erie, PA.
