Eagle’s Wings hosts impromptu fundraiser

FANTASTIC FROZEN FUNDRAISER: When Eagle’s Wings received a phone call from a trucking company asking if it could accept two pallets of ice cream, the answer was “Yes!”… And they then received more than 2,000 pounds of ice cream in 3-gallon containers. They asked themselves: “How can we distribute this ice cream to clients? Almost no one has freezers to accommodate the large-size containers. Eagle’s Wings called local churches with Vacation Bible Schools to come and get what they could use with the children; that still left half of Eagle’s Wings’ walk-in freezer full of the delicious stuff! With the 4th of July celebration coming up, Eagle’s Wings decided to share this treat with the community, and held an impromptu fundraiser on the waterfront on July 4, thanks to the Washington Harbor District Alliance. Board members, staff and volunteers rotated shifts throughout the day until it became too dark to scoop any more, but the generosity of the people who came to the Eagle’s Wings booth resulted in almost $700 in donations! Thanks must also be given to the Washington Crab and Oyster Company for supplying the ice to keep the ice cream frozen. Eagle’s Wings also thanks the members of the community who so generously supported this event! Pictured, volunteers scoop ice cream for celebrants at Washington’s Fourth of July celebration.
