Elsie Brickhouse Sawyer, 90, of Columbia and most recently a resident of Peak Resources in Nags Head, died Saturday, July 7, 2018.
She was the daughter of the late Troy Felton Brickhouse, Sr. and Filena Bateman Brickhouse. She was married to Marvin Bradford Sawyer, who preceded her in death.
Elsie was a member of Soundside Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker who loved flower gardening, cooking, and taking care of her home and family.
In the last year of her life, she came to appreciate the people who surrounded her at Peak Resources, looking on some of them as part of a second family. Shortly before she passed away, she said goodbye to Joyce, one of her nurses who was going on vacation, telling her that she might not be there when she got back, but that she wanted her to know that she loved her and to please tell everyone there how much all of their kindness and care had meant to her.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Soundside Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Royce Reynolds will officiate. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara S. Everett and Cindy S. Fleming; son-in-law, Terry Everett; and daughter in-law, Carla Sawyer, all of Columbia; three grandchildren, Chrystal Sawyer, Andrea Everett, and Brian Fleming; and three great-grandchildren, Isiah Fleming, Luke Fleming and Benjamin Fleming.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie M. Sawyer; six brothers, Sammy Brickhouse, Delton Brickhouse, Buster Brickhouse, Troy Brickhouse, Jr., Daniel Brickhouse and Ervin Brickhouse; and a sister Medra B. Craddock.
