Throughout Beaufort County, employees and volunteers of nonprofit organizations give of themselves every day to make our community a better place.
According to data from the National Center for Charitable Statistics, there are more than 100 registered nonprofit organizations in Beaufort County, and their missions represent a diverse range of needs.
With causes ranging from youth development and the arts to substance abuse and domestic violence prevention, each group seeks to champion an issue in our society. For each of us, there is a nonprofit organization in our community that reflects our values and the issues we see as important.
There are many causes to be passionate about, and taking action to make Beaufort County better is one of the highest forms of civic virtue. While not everyone can cut a big check to support these organizations, there is always something you can do to help support a cause you believe in.
Volunteer — Many nonprofits operate on shoestring budgets and depend on volunteers to do the important work, reserving money for the cause.
Donate — This can apply in more ways than just writing a check. Many organizations can benefit greatly from material donations.
Spread the word — For many nonprofits, raising awareness of local problems is key to garnering support and action. Take the time to share the needs of our community.
Becoming involved with a cause is not always easy. It demands that we give something of ourselves in an attempt to make our community better. Sacrifice and selflessness are rare commodities these days, but when it comes to improving the world, that’s something worth fighting for.
