BEARABLY CLOSE: These two members of a Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Black Bear (Ursus americanus) family will remain close for about 1 1/2 to 2 years, until the mother sends the cubs out to fend for themselves. In the wild, their average life span is 20 years. (Jackie Orsulak)
