Arts of the Pamlico provides a nice alternative

If you were inside the Turnage Theatre the night of July 20, you might’ve felt like you time-travelled to 1978, when the movie “Grease” debuted in theaters. Those in attendance had the opportunity to watch classic scenes on the big screen, such as Sandy and Danny telling their friends all about their summer fling with the song “Summer Nights,” Danny, Kenickie and the rest of the T-Birds singing how they’re going to transform their beat-up car into a hot rod in “Greased Lightning” and love birds Sandy and Danny finally getting back together with the duet “You’re the One That I Want!”
It wasn’t a one-off deal either, as the Turnage Theatre regularly shows classic movies. On Aug. 20 “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” will be shown. “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the first of the four Indiana Jones films, was played last year. Then on Sept. 7, the Turnage Theatre will continue its tradition of playing the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
In the past, the theater has screened a variety of motion pictures, ranging from classic movies from the early days of Hollywood, such as “Gone with the Wind” and “Casablanca,” to high-grossing movies that spawned franchises, such as “Jaws” and “Back to the Future.”
Having a theater in town that shows all-time classic movies is something that should be taken advantage of by all cinephiles in the area. It gives you the opportunity to re-watch your favorite films on the big screen with the sound system to match, the way they were meant to be viewed, instead of your TV at home. For those with children, it gives you the chance to share something you enjoyed from your youth with your little ones.
With popcorn, soda and candy available, the Turnage Theatre provides a nice alternative to modern theaters, while also being easy on the wallet. For all who enjoy watching the best that Hollywood has created over the years, you should definitely check out the Turnage Theatre.
