The Washington Kiwanis Club awarded a $1,500 scholarship at a recent meeting. Mary Grace Wilder from Washington High School was honored as the recipient. She graduated first in her class and was active in the Key Club along with many other school and extracurricular activities. Mary Grace was accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilder, at the presentation. She announced her plans to attend the N.C. State University College of Textiles and pursue a course of study in product development.
Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including the annual lobster sale, the Washington/Kiwanis Christmas parade and the annual golf tournament.
The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
