U.S. Highway 17 bridge reopened after electrical malfunction

The U.S. Highway 17 bridge at Washington was temporarily closed for about two hours on Monday, due to an electrical malfunction on the drawbridge.

According to Department of Transportation personnel on scene, the drawbridge malfunctioned after a major circuit breaker was tripped. As of 6 p.m. Monday, an electrician was working to resolve the issue.

The Washington Police Department closed the street at approximately 5 p.m. and handled traffic control during the closure, rerouting traffic to the U.S. Highway 17 Bypass until the issue was resolved approximately two hours later.
