On Aug. 3, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Kenneth Earl Spain, 44 years of age, of 208 Spain Drive in Washington. Spain was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule IV and schedule V controlled substances and a concealed handgun violation.

Spain’s arrest stemmed from investigators conducting surveillance on a residence reported to be involved in drug activity. Investigators conducted a traffic stop on Spain for having expired tags and an inspection violation after witnessing Spain depart from the reported residence.

Investigators conducted a search and found a plastic bag containing Alprazolam pills and Zolpidem pills, both schedule IV controlled substances, and Lyrica pills, a Schedule V controlled substance, in Spain’s pocket. Investigators found a 9 mm pistol in the driver’s door of the vehicle. Spain has a concealed carry permit, but forgot to notify the Investigators he was in possession of a pistol.

Spain was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
