Yoga for Everyone

The college is pleased to offer this healthful activity on our campus. Sharon Owens is a Kripalu Yoga certified instructor, and she will lead students to practice movement, breathing work, and meditation to become present in the moment and fully alive. The stretching is gentle and the benefits are immeasurable. This semester the class has expanded to seven sessions. The first meeting will orient beginners and returning students, and all other sessions will consist of yoga for everyone. Students will need to bring their own mat. Other equipment is supplied. There will be one class starting on September 6 and another on Oct. 24. Both run on Thursdays and cost only $40.

Line Dancing

The line dancing class is very popular, as it should be. There are now more sections, each with additional time. Everyone who joins has time to enjoy the gentle and moderate exercise. Line dancing improves memory while students learn 20 different dances. Enjoy getting ready for weddings and holiday parties. Both an evening and a daytime class will start on Sept. 10. The $30 classes run on Mondays.

Carolina Shag Dancing

The shag is the favorite couples dance in the Carolinas. Students can learn this traditional social activity and enjoy the fellowship in the dancing classroom. It will not take long for couples to master the basic steps and at least six fun moves. Dance etiquette will be part of the instruction. After this class, couples will be confident and ready to join-in at many social events. This $50 class will start on Sept. 11.

Learn to Play Piano

This class is a great introduction to piano and other keyboard instruments. With Scott Bradshaw in the lead, this class will help students develop the ability to play simple tunes on a keyboard. They will build an understanding of musical notation and the ability to read and play music. Students will enjoy their new skill at playing music for entertainment. We have the keyboards for learning. Just bring your enthusiasm. This class starts on Sept. 11 and costs $55.

Quilting

The Pamlico River Quilters’ Guild inspired this class, and Debby Hodges has made it a great success. The class meets for six sessions to give beginning quilters more experience under Debby’s guidance. Learn the basics of cutting, piecing sewing seams and quilting. Debby will address fabric choices and color combinations as students produce a wonderful sampler quilt. The class will also visit a local quilting shop. This $45 class is a great starting place for those who want to learn quilting. A book and supply list will be provided upon registration. Classes begin Sept.13.
