Christian actress to speak at Harvest Church

It’s not every day that a movie star comes to town. For the congregation at Harvest Church, this Sunday’s 10 a.m. service will look a little bit different than usual, as the group hosts award-winning actress Karen Abercrombie as a special guest speaker.

“She is going to be talking with us about the importance of Christian films and an upcoming production she is preparing to make called ‘Just Grace.’” Harvest Church Executive Assistant Laura Nicholls said.

While Abercrombie is most recognized for her role as Miss Clara in the recent film “War Room,” her film-acting career dates back to the late 1990s, where she got her start playing an uncredited role on “Ally McBeal.” She would also make guest appearances on “Saved by the Bell: The New Class,” “Judging Amy,” “Strong Medicine” and “The Vampire Diaries.”

While these titles may be the most recognizable of Abercrombie’s filmography, she has devoted a significant portion of her career to Christian films, both as an actor and a creator. She currently has two projects in development, a film project entitled “Just Grace” and a television project entitled “Remnant.”

“She will share with us a little bit as Karen Abercrombie and talk about her production company, and then will change into character and finish the service as Miss Clara,” Nicholls explained.

The service will be held at Harvest Church, located at 2020 West 15th Street in Washington. Devotional books will be available for purchase, and a love offering will be collected during the service to assist with production of “Just Grace.” All are welcome to attend.

“We frequently have guest visitors come in to speak,” Nicholls said. “We do two-to-three conferences per year and have a guest from outside come into minister.
