Henry Hill, director of the Church Road Emergency Food Pantry, thanked the Tyrrell County Board of Commissioners on August 7 for their commitment to constructing a permanent home for the food distribution service.

Joyce Sykes Fitch, a Ludford Road resident, thanked the board for visiting her neighborhood and getting a promise from NCDOT to clean out the roadside ditch by the end of the month. She also reported that a state environmental specialist had recently inspected a lot she owns and concurred with the district health department’s earlier denial of a septic system permit because the land failed the percolation test. She expressed an eagerness for the county to extend sewer service to Ludford Road, which is in progress.

Dianne Bryant complained of flooding on Cemetery Road. Her home there was made uninhabitable by Hurricane Matthew, but she expects to move into the replacement structure in November. County manager David Clegg was directed to inquire of NCDOT and inform Bryant and the board of what the state plans to do about the high water.

The commissioners appointed Dorothy Spencer to a three-year term on the Tyrrell County Board of Social Services.

Camilla Basnight was named to the Hyde County Transit Board, which operates the Gator Line public transportation vans in Tyrrell.

George Haislip and Toby Kirkman were appointed to the Tyrrell County Public Library Board of Trustees.

The commissioners postponed naming a successor to Frances Smythe on the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Board of Health until the county manager could determine if the vacancy must be filled by another health care professional.
