The Washington Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on West 11th Street on Sunday evening that left one man dead.
Washington Police and Fire Services Director Stacy Drakeford says that the victim, James Cradle, age 30 of Washington, was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital on Sunday evening by a third party after suffering a single gunshot wound to the face. Drakeford went on to say that the weapon used in the crime is believed to be a small-caliber handgun.
WPD officers were called to the hospital at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. Thus far, Drakeford says officers have interviewed the person who drove Cradle to the hospital, as well as witnesses at the scene.
“We are trying to figure out exactly where it happened on 11th Street, because everybody is telling different stories,” Drakeford said.
When asked if the WPD has a suspect, Drakeford replied that the investigation is ongoing. Drakeford says that Cradle, who was transported to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, passed early Monday morning.
