CHOCOWINITY — Even if the power goes out in Chocowinity, according to Chocowinity Mayor James Mobley, a grid of nine generators will ensure that the water keeps flowing to residents.

“The only thing we ask is that people limit sewer use,” Mobley said. “We’ll have drinking water, but we ask people not to wash dishes or anything like that, until the power comes back on.”

With a slightly higher elevation than Beaufort County’s other municipalities, Mobley says that Chocowinity has typically fared better than others during periods of intense flooding.

“So far, we have never flooded,” Mobley said. “When Floyd came through, we didn’t flood.”

In addition to generators on the water system, Mobley said the town has generators in place at the town hall and the Chocowinity Police Department, and phones will be monitored throughout the storm.
