GREENSBORO — Alice Marie Williamson Grissom, 76, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. A private family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Oxford.
Although she was currently residing in Greensboro, Alice lived the majority of her life in Aurora, Kinston and Greenville. Alice was a 1960 graduate of Aurora High School, where she played on the basketball team and served on several committees. During her life, she attended both Methodist and Episcopal churches. In her late 30s and early 40s, she enjoyed playing women’s softball for Wheat Swamp Church. Also referred to as “Baby,” she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, playing cards, being around the water, watching college basketball, reading and shopping at Walmart. She was a wonderful mother and friend, as well as a devoted and proud grandmother.
Alice was preceded in death by the love of her life, William F. “Billy” Grissom, to whom she was married for 53 years; her parents, Don Swain Williamson and Marie Overton Williamson, of Aurora; and her brother, Gene A. Williamson, also of Aurora.
Surviving are her beloved daughter, Johna G. Bowen and husband Ron, of Greensboro; grandchildren Tory M. Bowen and Hunter W. Bowen, both of Durham; brother Buck Williamson and wife Lala, who was her best friend and daily phone pal, of Aurora; and four nephews and their families, all of eastern North Carolina.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Carolina Children’s Hospital, Promise Fund, Campus Box 7237, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
