From Beaufort County Emergency Services

We are still expecting Hurricane Florence to have winds of up to 140 mph before and upon landfall with sustained winds of 55 + mph. Tropical force winds will begin Wednesday night into Thursday morning steadily increasing in intensity. Storm surge for our rivers is expected to be between six to 12 feet. Total rainfall for area is still projected to be 10 to 15 inches. In addition, there is a tornado threat for our county through the event.

Evacuation
Beaufort County is still under a voluntary evacuation of the entire county.

Shelter
Beaufort County will open a shelter at Washington High School beginning at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Please remember, to bring necessities for several days stay.

Beaufort County will be providing transportation to the Washington shelter according to the following information:

Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 2 p.m. departure time
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 5 p.m. departure time
Aurora Fire Department
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 2 p.m. departure time
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 5 p.m. departure time
Blount’s Creek Fire Department
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 2:30 p.m. departure time
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 5:30 p.m. departure time
Chocowinity Food Lion Parking Lot
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 3 p.m. departure time
Wednesday, Sept. 12 — 6 p.m. departure time

Animals for Shelter Attendees
Animals other than service animals are not allowed at the shelter nor on bus transportation. Shelter attendees with no other arrangement for animals may check their animal into the Beaufort County Animal Shelter. You must have a verification form provided by shelter staff to check your animal into the Beaufort County Animal Shelter.
