Red Cross blood drive at BCCC

Communities across eastern North Carolina have come together to help victims of the flooding and damage from Hurricane Florence. The American Red Cross has been providing immediate aid to families, but the storm affected another aspect of the organization—blood donation. To help the Red Cross boost its supplies, the Student Government Association at Beaufort County Community College is hosting a blood drive on Oct. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Building 10 on BCCC’s campus.

Just as Hurricane Florence interrupted numerous other activities, it forced the cancellation of a number of blood drives. While the blood collection stopped, surgeries and injuries did not, resulting in low blood supplies at hospitals in the region.

Radio station V103.5 will be broadcasting live from campus between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Donors will have the opportunity to win tickets to the Carolina Cares Benefit Concert with Jake Miller, MKTO, AJ Mitchell, and Elijah Woods and Jamie Fine on October 20 at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh. Tickets to ECU football games will also be part of the raffle.

This event is open to the public. Visit redcrossblood.org and enter: BeaCC to Schedule an appointment.
