Washington Noon Rotary hears update to tax code

Introduced by club member Bob Jenks, Thomas Swanner provided Washington (noon) Rotary club members an overview of changes in 2018 state and federal taxes.

Mr. Swanner explained that there were a great many changes enacted this year and that they affected virtually all income levels.

Swanner provided several examples at various income levels, pointing out that it was more than tax rates that were affected. There were changes to many deductions and other aspects of the code so that everyone’s returns could see varying results.

Some aspects of the revised code may be affected by the taxpayer’s decisions prior to the end of the year, so his advice was to be sure to consult a tax professional prior to the end of this year.

Swanner can be reached at Thomas Swanner & Company, P.A., 133 W. Third St., Washington; 252-946-2093; www.swannercpa.com.

Washington (noon) Rotary consists of volunteers within Beaufort County dedicating their efforts to charitable causes both locally and those to which its parent organization subscribes. Each year, this local group has raised and disbursed funds to local non-profits through creative fundraising activities. For more information, visit
