“Weatherwise, it’s such a lovely day,” sang Frank Sinatra in Come Fly With Me.

His lyrics were an apt reflection on the sunny skies that prevailed during the Scuppernong River Festival in Columbia on Oct. 13 after Tropical Storm Michael passed quickly only one day before.

Thousands flocked Main Street for the 10 a.m. parade and then mingled and shopped and ate and talked throughout the day.

Several Columbia High School classes held reunions during the weekend.

There was all-day music and entertainment from the river to the library and down Broad Street.

Local foods and products were exhibited; there were helicopter rides, a Civil War re-enactment, canoes and water activities, all topped off by a concert at the courthouse featuring the Original Rondells and then fireworks above the river.
