BCCC Foundation announces recipients, accepting applications until Nov. 9

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients. On October 25, the foundation will hold an auction and concert featuring the Embers to continue funding such scholarships. Scholarship applications for the spring 2019 semester are due on November 9. Denise Bolafka, 62, received the Cypress Landing and the Louise & Dorsey Welch Scholarship. The wife of Michael Bolafka and mother of three, she currently works in the work-study program at BCCC. The Washington resident attended Rio Linda Senior High School and is working on an Associate in General Education and an Associate in Arts. Bolafka plans to work with special needs children to help them become a positive and productive part of the community after earning her bachelor’s degree.
George Briley, 21, received the Gordon & Ester Malmfeld and the BCCC Staff Association Scholarships. Briley is the son of Hank and Katrina Briley of Greenville. He is part of the welding program, and he attended Washington High School. The Greenville resident plans to work as a professional welder, and he currently works at Garden Classics as crew leader of lawn maintenance.
Vontasia Collins, 18, received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. She is part of the nursing program and plans to work in pediatrics. The daughter of Melvin and Contessa Collins of Washington, she attended Washington High School. The Washington resident currently works as a crew member at Little Caesar’s, and she is a certified nurse aide.
Jamie Hauser, 20, received the Cypress Landing Scholarship. She is part of the nursing program, and attended First Flight High School. The Washington resident plans to work as a nurse practitioner. She is the daughter of Daphne and Clay Hauser of Kitty Hawk, and she works as a cashier at Bear Drugs.
Madison LeNeave, 18, received the State Employees Credit Union Scholarship. The Greenville resident is part of the nursing program and plans to become a nurse practitioner after practicing nursing at Vidant Medical Center. She attended D.H. Conley High School.
Maria Rojas, 27, received the Tayloe’s Hospital Pharmacy Scholarship. The Beaufort County resident is part of the nursing program and plans to attend East Carolina University to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is the daughter of Rene and Rosa Rojas of Tyner, N.C., and she currently works at Agape Community Health Serves as an interpreter/medical records specialist. She attended John A. Holmes High School, and she holds an Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies.
Kaila Smith, 20, received the Tayloe’s Hospital Pharmacy Scholarship. The Roper resident is part of the nursing program and plans to become a neonatal nurse practitioner. She is the daughter of Connie and Edward Smith, and she currently works at Chowan County Emergency Services as an emergency medical technician (EMT). She attended NERSBA, and she holds an Associate in Science and an Associate in General Education.
Kendall Watkins, 18, received the Harold & Louise Lane, the Margaret Hodges Hackney, the Tayloe’s Hospital Pharmacy and the Bill Pruitt/St. Thomas Episcopal Church Scholarships. She is part of the nursing program and the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) program. The daughter of Tyler and Suzanne Watkins of Washington, she attended Washington High School. The Washington resident currently works as a certified nurse aide I at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Services. She plans to pursue a master’s degree at East Carolina University.
