From Hyde County Government
At the October Hyde County Board of Commissioner meeting, Margie Brooks was honored as October’s Friend of Hyde County.
Brooks lived in Swan Quarter for over 30 years before moving to Washington in 2013. She served as the volunteer Tourism Director for the Greater Hyde County Chamber of Commerce for five years and was later hired as their Executive Director from 2000-2007. She also served as the Executive Director for the Historic Albemarle Tour from 1999-2004. A longtime board member of the Hyde County Community Development Corp., she served as the Chairman from 2001-2015. Margie also served on other community and economic development boards state-wide and many local planning committees.
Although she now lives in Beaufort County, she still volunteers with The Octagon House, the Hyde County Historical & Genealogical Society, and the Swan Quarter VFD. She also manages the Facebook page for The Swan Quarterly. Brooks says her heart is still in Hyde County.
