From First Presbyterian Church, Washington

On Sunday night at 7 p.m., the historic First Presbyterian Church of Washington’s sanctuary will be bathed in candlelight and surrounded by the sound of a 20-piece orchestra accompanying the Chancel Choir as they present “A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols.”

The service will include music for every musical taste, including works by Handel and Faure, as well as such familiar anthems as “Joy to the World,” “Ave Maria,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “I Believe.” During the singing of “Silent Night,” each member of the congregation will be given a candle which will be lighted as the verses of this famous carol are sung.

The choirs will be accompanied by musicians from the North Carolina Symphony, East Carolina University School of Music and the Top Hat Orchestra of Virginia.

Guest soloists include soprano Katherine Lakoski, mezzo-soprano Alexandra Fee, tenor Dan Calloway and baritone Dale Stine. Each soloist has performed throughout the United States and in Europe, as well as on Broadway and television.

Following the service there will be a gala reception in the church fellowship hall.

This service of music is free and open to the public as a gift to the community and surrounding area. A nursery will be provided for all children under the age of 6.

Please make special plans to attend this service of Christmas music. You will receive a blessing as your heart is lifted in preparation for this holy season of the year.
