Mable Bright Davenport, 71, of 1903 U. S. Highway 64-East, Columbia, died late Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Elizabeth City Health Care and Rehabilitation after an extended illness.
Born in Washington County, May 18, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Warren Hardin Bright and Martha Bright Hawkins. She was married to Lawrence A. Davenport who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Davenport was a registered nurse and worked at Washington County Hospital for many years and later with Interim Home Care. She was a member of the Assembly of Praise and was an awesome grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Assembly of Praise. Rev. Randy Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow in Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Warren H. Davenport of Columbia; a step-daughter, Debra Varner and husband, Steve of Zebulon; a daughter-in-law, Donna E. Dewhurst of Columbia; two brothers, J. C. Bright of Rocky Mount and Bobby Bright of Florida; a sister, Sue B. Swain of Creswell; grandchildren, J. W. Hodges and wife, Renee, Keith Hodges, Kristen Davenport, Joshua Davenport, Jacob Davenport, Shannon Varner and Jeremy Varner; great-grandchildren, Buddy Brinn, Shane Brinn, Dylan Hughes, Kamiyah Davenport, Carly Hill, Tylor Culbeth, Maxton Culbreth and Jayden Hodges.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lyndoria D. Hodges; two sons as infants; a grandchild, Josh Varner.
The family request that memorials be made in the form of a gift to Davenport Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 17, Columbia NC 27925 to assist with funeral services.
The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the funeral beginning at 1 p.m. at the church and immediately following the funeral service.
