Southside High School held its sixth annual Alumni Day on Friday, Dec. 21. Twenty-three Southside alumni from the graduation classes of 2014-2018 returned to their alma mater and spoke with all students in grades 9-12. Each homeroom was assigned one or two alumni at a time for two sessions who answered questions covering topics such as dorm life, expectations of college, tips for success, college athletics, and what students could do to start preparing while in high school.
At the completion of the homeroom presentations, alumni enjoyed refreshments in the media center and time to catch up with their classmates. Shortly after seniors were invited to the media center to speak with the alumni in a smaller setting. Seniors had the opportunity to ask questions about their specific colleges, majors and receive advice from their older peers. The graduates were presented with goody bags at the completion of the assembly as Southside’s expression of gratitude for speaking. The program was organized by Tina Petty, a math teacher at Southside.
Alumni attending were Grant Harrell (NC Wesleyan), Sarah Poole (NC State), Philip Smith (UNC Greensboro), Riley Ward (Western Carolina), Marshall Medlock (Pitt Community), Caitlyn Glisson (Pitt Community), Kenzie Woolard (Appalachian State), Nick Blount (Beaufort Community, ECU), Shadrienna Roland (NC A&T), Morgen Tyndall (Pitt Community), Kinyara Daniels (NC Central), Carter Barnes (NC State), Na’Kiya Johnson (NC Wesleyan), Eminey Redmond (Winston Salem State), Hannah Jones (NC State), Sarah Shingleton (UNC Wilmington), Erica Staats (ECU), Dakota Modlin (ECU), Taiwan Ebron (NC Wesleyan), Kimberly Ange (Louisburg/UNC Wilmington), Barbie Doll Moore (NC State), Caleb Petty (Belmont), Nakeya Johnson (Pitt Community).
