Most property owners paid tax before penalties began

Property owners paid the Tyrrell County tax collector more than $1.51 million in December, Syliva Brickhouse, tax administrator, has reported.

The largest amount, $1,385,309, was paid on the 2018 property tax levy, just before penalties and interest began on Jan. 6.

Payments on delinquent property taxes (2009-2017) added up to $21,243.

$86,089 paid on the 2018 solid waste fee, and $2,507 was received on prior-year accounts.

The LCID fee of $35 per household, which supports the Smith Lane rubble field operations, was credited with $15,168 for 2018 and 2017.

A total of $1,310,057 was owed to the county for all years and all accounts as of Dec. 31.
