As part of its Community Voices series, the Beaufort County Community College library will host children’s author Eileen Lettick on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Lettick will present and sign copies of her book Sarah the Bold. The event is open to the public.
Eileen Lettick is a former elementary school teacher and literacy consultant who resides in Eastern North Carolina. She enjoys writing stories with strong female characters and will speak about the development of her middle-grade time travel adventure, the research necessary to create the novel and writing during her best years. Participants can find out about the history of the book, writing historic fiction and engaging school children.
“Sarah the Bold” follows Sarah Osborne, who on her 11th birthday is magically transported to the year 1765. She awakens on the Guilford, Conn. town common and is mistaken for a runaway slave. The reader follows Sarah as she meets a renowned American figure, deals with the racial sentiment of the times and strives to make sense of her new life in pre-revolutionary America. “Sarah the Bold” was a finalist in the 2012 Tassy Walden Book Award.
The library has hosted poet Jonathan Clayborne, photographer Shanon Shuler-Gaskins, editor Roy Armstrong and historian Leesa Jones as part of its Community Voices series. The BCCC library is open to the public, with a collection of books, audiobooks and DVDs.
