Hazard mitigation meetings scheduled for Washington, Belhaven

Beaufort County Emergency Services will hold a pair of special meetings on Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 for Beaufort County homeowners who suffered significant flood damage during Hurricane Florence. The meeting will cover how to apply for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding that could be used to elevate, demolish or otherwise protect homes from future flood damage. In order to qualify, the impacted home must be your primary residence, and residents from anywhere in the county may attend either meeting.

Feb. 19 — Washington City Council Chambers, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Feb. 26 — Belhaven Civic Center, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Residents will have opportunities to ask questions and learn more about the process.

  • Pick up the application in person, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the front desk of the County Manager’s Office at 121 W. Third St., Washington.
