Bobby Mitchell (left) was recognized as the oldest armed forces veteran in attendance at American Legion Post 182’s annual Valentine Dinner at Norman Smith Legion Beach near Columbia Feb. 11. The World War II Navy veteran may be, at 102, the oldest active Legionnaire in North Carolina. At right is Myrtle Mitchell, his wife of 79 years.
