Joseph “Joey” Keith Phelps, 70, of Belhaven, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2019, after a tough battle with cancer.
Joey was raised in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High School. He worked at Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth as a Crane Operator and Millwright for over 37 years. Joey loved hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Roy Phelps, and a stepson, Eddie “Little Ed” Arrants Jr.
Joey is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Phelps Avery and husband Scott, of Greenville; stepdaughter, Ann Arrants Mugford and husband Rohn, of Savannah, Georgia; sister, Amber Phelps Hudson, of Greenville; brothers, Roy Allen Phelps, of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Gary Phelps, of Belhaven; grandchildren include Ashley Kerner, Erica Davis, Jeremiah Davis, Blake Hodges, Ben Avery, Hannah Scott Avery, Alli Grant Avery and Zack Arrants; great-grandchildren, Landin, Mason, Autumn, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
Arrangements are by Washington Funeral and Cremation – Hillside Chapel.
