Irene P. Sawyer

Irene Phelps Sawyer, 88, of Plymouth died, Sunday, April 14, 2019 at her daughter’s residence in Columbia.

Born in Washington County, September 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late George and Reba Vail Phelps. She was married to William Riley Sawyer who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Plymouth Church of Christ and for many years she loved to crochet hats for hugs.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the family plot in Hillside Memorial Gardens, Plymouth.  Thomas Biggs will officiate.

Surviving are two daughters; Renay S. Snow and husband, Paul of Great Mills, MD, and Patricia S. Bateman and husband, Roy of Columbia; four grandchildren, Michelle B. Jackson, Roy Allan Bateman, Jr., Russell Snow and Ryan Snow; five great grandchildren, Jonathan, Christian, Allison, Jessica, and Alexis.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold “Dick” Phelps and two sisters, Maddie Haislip and Molly Whittington.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service at Hampton Academy, 108 W. Main Street, Plymouth.
