In addition it is unlawful to bury any refuse for the purpose of disposal.

Garbage pick-up is handled once weekly by GDS/Republic Services which is under contract with Tyrrell County for collection, disposal and recycling. The town picks up leaves and vegetative debris for disposal at the Tyrrell County trash collection site located three-miles south of Columbia just off NC-94.

Contractors or homeowners are expected to arrange for disposal of building materials and demolition debris at the county collection site.
