Naomi N. Cox

Naomi Nelson (Nell) Cox, 93, of 1635 Goshen Road, The Middletown Community, Engelhard, died early Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Peak Resources Health Care and Rehabilitation at Nags Head after a lengthy illness.

Born in Fairfield on July 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Richard Nelson and Jenny Cutrell Camp.  She was married to Joseph W. Cox who preceded her in death.  She was a member and elder in the former Middletown Christian Church and following the fire that destroyed the church building in 1999, she became a member of the Engelhard Christian Church where she served as an elder.  She was a very active person in community affairs in the Village of Middletown.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the Engelhard Christian Church.  Pastor Andy Edge and Steve Bryan will officiate and a private burial will be in the Middletown Christian Church Cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Richard M. Cox and wife, Dee of Kill Devil Hills and Joe Redden Cox and wife, Joan of Gull Rock; two sisters, Hope Dough and husband, Allen of Manteo and Kathryn Spencer of Manteo; grandchildren, Richard Michael Cox of Elizabeth City, Mary Beth Cera of Dover, Deleware , Heather C. Etheridge of Manteo and Lori Patch of Shiloh, New Jersey; five great-grandchildren, Isaiah Cera, Naomi Cera, Gavin Monroe Cox, Trace Etheridge and Zack Etheridge.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heidi Cox; a brother, Vernon Barrington,  & two sisters, Carolyn Cutrell and Selma Watson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Engelhard Christian Church, Engelhard NC  27824 and the family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service on Saturday.
