Seen in the marsh on Pea Island Refuge, this small (2″) but menacing acting Fiddler Crab, held its place as a companion sunk into the muddy water out of sight. Male Fiddler Crabs have one extra-large claw along with a normal sized claw, while the females have two normal sized claws. Some Fiddler Crabs prefer a mud environment, others prefer marsh and there are those that prefer living in the sand.
