Thomas Nickens “Tommy” Alexander, Sr.

PLYMOUTH — Thomas Nickens “Tommy” Alexander, Sr., 79, of Plymouth died Friday, June 21, 2019, at MacGregor Downs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville.

Born October 14, 1939 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Albert Ward Alexander and Dartha Ausbon Alexander and was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Alexander, Jr. and sister, Melba Gardner. Tommy retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation as a paper cutter with 30 years’ service. He was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship where he served for many years as Secretary and Treasurer. Tommy served as a personnel specialist in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1969 and was awarded the “Good Conduct Medal.”

Tommy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was

affectionately known as PawPaw. He was a man of integrity and compassion who showed kindness and generosity to all those he encountered.

His family includes his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Rogers Alexander of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Karen Hopper and husband Steve of Lorton, VA.; Kathy Smith and husband Danny of Stokes, N.C. and son, Nick Alexander and wife Emily of Athens, AL.; grandchildren,

Lindsay Sims and husband Greg, Winnie Smith, Gabriella Ulloa, Morgan Alexander, Davy Smith, Alex Hopper and Molly Alexander; great granddaughter, Savannah Sims; nieces and nephews, Gordon and Emily Gardner, Daphne and Jimmy Nash and Donna and Andy Freeman.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Victory Christian

Fellowship with Wayne West officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Windley Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Victory Christian Fellowship and other times at the residence.
