40 UNDER 40: Two Washingtonians were recently honored by their alma mater, East Carolina University. Jonathan Russell and Kelli Russell (no relation) were recipients of ECU’s “40 Under 40” awards, a leadership award for former students “making an impact on the world and have used their East Carolina experience to pursue their passions, help others and lead positive change in industry, civic service and beyond.” Jonathan Russell (pictured on the left with his wife, Shannon) earned three degrees at ECU — a bachelor’s in political science, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Science in geography and planning, and is currently Washington’s city manager. Kelli Russell (pictured on the right) obtained a Bachelor of Science in health education and promotion in 2005, followed by a Master of Public Health in 2008. She is the Public Health Program Director and Instructor at ECU, and serves as an advocate for several academic and community initiatives. (East Carolina University)
