Sheriff reports activities to Columbia aldermen

Sheriff Kevin Sawyer recently reported to the Columbia Board of Aldermen on activities of his officers inside the town.
The communication center recorded 574 law enforcement calls or complaints in May, 541 in April, 492 in March, and 410 in February.
Washington-Tyrrell Emergency Medical Service responded to 16 in-town calls in May, 23 in April, 15 in March, and 12 in February.
There were two fire calls in May, two in April, one in March, and three in February.
Officers conducted six investigations in May, made four on-view arrests, served three orders for arrest, and issued 56 citations.
The on-view arrests were for assault on a female, breaking and entering and larceny and uttering a forger endorsement, drunk and disruptive, and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
Officers made one on-view arrest in April for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and they served three arrest orders and issued 24 citations.
The two deputies assigned to duty inside Columbia drove 3,398 miles on duty in May 2,507 miles in April.
