Edward Joseph Gallagher

Mr. Edward Joseph Gallagher, 81, a resident of Chocowinity, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019.

He was born Aug. 4, 1938, to the late Albert and Anne (nee Hendrie) Gallagher in New Rochelle, New York, and raised in the Bronx, New York. Edward graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, New York. He was a personnel man in the U.S. Navy and Flight Crew Member of Patron-18 during the Cold War. He flew in P2Vs in search of Russian submarines and served at Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Port Lyautey, Morocco; and Keflavik, Iceland. After his discharge from the Navy, Ed went to work for the Guaranty Trust Company in NYC, which later became the JP Morgan Guaranty Trust Company. He started in the warehouse, then moved to the Purchasing Department. He worked for Morgan for 38 years, ending his career as Vice President of Staff Services. This included Security, Construction and Maintenance, Communications, and Dining Rooms.

Ed was preceded in death by brothers Albert, Ronald, Allen Raymond and his wife Katherine (nee McGovern) Gallagher and their daughter Diane Gallagher-Groesbeck; cousin Theodore (Teddy) Schenkewitz, his wife Judy and their son, Kenneth.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (nee Albin), of Chocowinity, with whom he shared 52 years of wedded bliss.

He is survived by sons James Gallagher and wife Susan (nee Pappas), of Mountainside, New Jersey, Kevin Gallagher, of Chocowinity, and daughter Nan and her husband Adam Auferio, of Succasunna, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Michael and Shannen Gallagher, of Mountainside, New Jersey, and Fiona and Blaze Auferio, of Succasunna, New Jersey; one brother, Fr. John Gallagher OFM Cap of Middletown, Connecticut; two sisters-in-law, Nan (nee Ferns) Gallagher, of Hawley, Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth (nee McGuigan) Gallagher, of Melbourne Beach, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was an avid New York Giants football fan and held season tickets for 38 years. He had enjoyed golfing and playing cards with friends at the Washington Yacht & Country Club where he was a member for over 20 years.
