Friday night wrap-up

Severe thunderstorms were the story on Friday night. The Southside Seahawks were the only team to tee it up and kick it off. Washington’s game at North Pitt and Northside’s game at home against Perquimans were never able to begin, despite coming out onto the field to warm-up.

The Seahawks are currently locked in a defensive struggle. The game was halted at the 5:06 mark of the second quarter due to the lightning in the area, with a 0-0 score. Ayden-Grifton drove down the field on their first drive, and had two passes that were nearly caught for a touchdown. The drive squandered on the next play, as the Chargers quarterback coughed up the ball and recovered it for an 8-yard loss.

The Seahawks had some offensive success, but penalties were the demise of any scoring opportunities. Just before the delay, the Chargers were driving again. They were able to get inside the Seahawks’ 20-yard line, but a block in the back penalty pinned them back. On the next play, the Seahawks recovered an Ayden-Grifton fumble and took over near the 50-yard line, when mother nature reared its head. The game will resume on Monday evening at 6 p.m.

The Pam Pack came onto the field twice to warm up, but learned the game will be postponed until Monday evening at 7 p.m.

Northside’s game against the Pirates of Perquimans will be made up on Monday evening. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m., and the junior varsity game will be moved to a later date.
