PANTEGO — It took every bit of five sets for the Terra Ceia Knights to overcome the Hobgood Academy Raiders on Tuesday evening, winning 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-13.
After dropping the first set, Terra Ceia bounced back to win the next two. After a back and forth battle in the fourth set, the Knights were able to get the edge in the fifth and final set.
Captains Emily Roscoe and Lynn Van Staalduinen said they were proud of their team for finishing off the victory.
“It was definitely a stressful game,” Van Staalduinen said after the win. “In terms of the game being close, that was the best game we’ve been a part of.”
Despite the victory, the Lady Knights said they still have some kinks to work out, and it starts with talking out on the floor.
“We definitely (need to work on) our communication and fixing our serves. Some of them just weren’t there today,” Roscoe said.
The two seniors and captains said they, as well as the rest of their team have one common goal, and that’s to go far in their postseason tournament.
The Knights earned their third win of the season on Tuesday evening, improving their record to 3-4 on the season, but more importantly 3-2 in the conference. Two of their out of conference losses came to North Carolina’s second ranked John Paul II Catholic, according to MaxPreps.
Terra Ceia head volleyball coach Jamie Van Essendelft spoke about her teams success so far this season and what she hopes her squad can improve on going forward.
“We’ve played a couple games where we reached four sets but this the first to reach five, it was very exciting,” Van Essendelft said. “We need to work on our communication and working on their foundation skills a little bit. This has been a fun year though, I love every one of these girls.”
Terra Ceia’s next matchup is tomorrow at home against Ridgecroft. First serve will be at 5:15 p.m.
