Teams around Beaufort County have entered conference play for every sport. In some cases, teams have entered the home stretch and are jockeying for positioning for postseason tournaments.
Soccer
The Southside Seahawks (10-1, 0-1 Coastal Carolina 1-A) suffered their first loss of the season in their conference opener against Tarboro on Monday night. An unlikely opponent to knock off the undefeated Seahawks boasted a 1-5-1 record prior to defeating Southside. The Seahawks will have to make a quick turnaround and travel to Northside (2-5, 0-1) today.
The Panthers have won two out of their last four games and will have played Unity Christian on Tuesday night before hosting Southside today.
Washington (8-0-2, 4-0 Eastern Carolina 2-A) continued their winning ways last night with a 4-0 blanking of South Lenoir on Monday night. They will host New Bern and travel to West Craven this week as well.
Pungo Christian Academy (6-6, 1-2 NCISAA Tarheel Independent) is on a current two-game skid, and will have to travel in their three remaining games of the regular season.
Volleyball
The Northside Lady Panthers have gotten off to a hot 7-1 start after defeating Bear Grass Charter School on Monday night 3-1. The second-place Panthers will face off with the division leading Pamlico County Hurricanes and third-place Riverside Knights this week and will help shape the 1-A Coastal Carolina conference.
Southside (4-7, 2-4 CC 1-A) was beaten by South Creek in their last match up but picked up conference wins over Jones Senior and Tarboro a couple of weeks ago. They will host Greene Central and play Tarboro again this week.
The Washington Pam Pack (3-6, 1-5 EC 2-A) defeated Greene Central last week to get them back on the winning track and earn their first conference victory. The Lady Pack will play Kinston and North Lenoir this week.
The Lady Raiders of Pungo Christian Academy (17-0, 10-0) are still yet to be defeated. With only two games left on their schedule, the Lady Raiders are on the brink of a perfect regular season and will have earned themselves a few home playoff matches.
Terra Ceia (6-8, 4-6) will face off with the conference leading Raiders and cap off their season with a trip to Hobgood Academy this week to round out their regular season. The Lady Knights have won their last two games and currently sit fourth in the conference.
Golf
The ladies on the Washington Pam Pack (12-2, 6-0 EC 2-A) golf team will be hosting the conference tournament at Washington Yacht & Country Club on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Pack under head coach Jerry Raper have been very successful thus far and hope the momentum carries over into the Conference tournament.
Cross-Country
After Southside’s Ethan Sommers won the conference cross-country meet last week held at Northside High School with a time of 17 minutes and 42 seconds, both teams will be back in action this week.
Unity Christian Academy in Chocowinity will also be having a home meet on Thursday.
Washington will host a meet today at the high school. Teams included in the meet will be Ayden-Grifton, Kinston and Greene Central.
