Luther Thomas “Luke” Tetterton

Mr. Luther Thomas “Luke” Tetterton, age 86, a resident of Washington, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Arthur “Bud” Ball. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Mike Tetterton, Mack Wallace, Toby Tetterton, Haywood Broome, A.W. Cooke, Wayne Martin, Horace Waters and Carl Tetterton, Jr.

Mr. Tetterton was born in Beaufort County on May 6, 1933. He was the son of the late Joyner Delone Tetterton and Annie Augusta Paul Tetterton. Mr. Tetterton attended Bath High School. After working in the log woods, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country, Mr. Tetterton married Kate Yeargan in the early 1960s. During their marriage, he was at different times active with the Masonic Lodge #509, the Pamlico Pals and the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Tetterton loved woodworking, gardening and was a member of the Hunters Bridge Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Tetterton in 1999. In 2001, Mr. Tetterton married Margaret “Catherine” Brown Broome, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Karen Tetterton Jefferson and husband George, and Loretta Tetterton Johnson. He is survived by Catherine’s children, who he dearly loved, Haywood Thomas Broome (Tonya), Deborah Annette Broome, Linder Gray Broome Mitchell (Mike); his grandchildren, George Wayne Jefferson, Jr. (wife), Tonya Jefferson Alligood (husband), Caitlyn Leigh Johnson, Sierra Leigh Johnson, Madison Emily Johnson; and three great-grandchildren. On Catherine’s side, there are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Tetterton is also survived by a sister, Ann Elizabeth Tetterton Martin.

In addition to his parents and wife, Kate, Mr. Tetterton was predeceased by three brothers, Joyner Delone Tetterton, Jr., Carl Jackson Tetterton and Paul Neal Tetterton; and one sister, Phyllis Ella Tetterton Goerhing.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
