From the Beaufort County Republican Party
It’s fall and time for a barn party. Imagine good music, good eats, and good friends around a bonfire. Think it sounds pretty good until you get damp or chilly or need a rest room? Well then, add a cozy barn with facilities to the formula for a perfect fall barn party.
The public is invited to the Elephant Stomp on Nov. 16 at Southern Acres of Bath. A fundraiser for the Beaufort County Republican Party, The Stomp begins at 6 p.m. and features gospel and bluegrass music. Two bands will perform during the evening scheduled to wrap up by 10 p.m.
Highway Revival, a gospel voice trio, will kick off the evening of music. Nicole Brett sings alto and plays the piano; Phillip Marley adds strength with his male voice; and Rachel Marley sings lead. The name “Highway Revival” has dual meaning: First, it means Christians are called to take the gospel “on the road”; and second, it reminds God’s children to encourage each other along “holy highway.”
Big Mac’s Bluegrass Band, a four-instrument band, is the headliner for Elephant Stomp. Mac McRoy and his band are often included in variety shows of the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association. McRoy’s band receives high marks for their performances. Guests are in for musical treat.
And speaking of treats, guests can purchase refreshments throughout the evening. Warren’s Hot Dogs of Chocowinity will be selling hot dogs, pizza, chips, and soft drinks.
If “Elephant Stomp” seems an odd moniker, a word of explanation might help. In 1912, “stomp” was used to describe jazz music marked by a driving rhythm and a fast tempo. When you add “elephant” (the symbol of the Republican Party), you get the event title that indicates a fun musical gathering.
In addition to listening to quality “down East” music performed by talented locals, guests can visit with other Beaufort County Republicans in a casual atmosphere. The spacious venue has multiple seating areas, refreshments counter, and ample parking.
Southern Acres of Bath is a country venue on a working farm located at 3889 N.C. Highway 92 East in Bath. Nancy Brickhouse opened it just last year. Her late husband, Buddy, purchased the land in 2008, with no real plan for its use. He passed away in June 2012 leaving behind a legacy of hard work and love for family, which his wife and sons have poured into Southern Acres of Bath. The name was chosen, not just for the way it rolls off the tongue, but for the initials SAB, in memory of Samuel Alfred “Buddy” Brickhouse III.
Advance tickets are $25. At the event, tickets will be $30, subject to availability. Purchase advance tickets at beaufort.nc.gop or phone 252-975-6309 or 712-540-7284.
Event proceeds will go to the Beaufort County Republicans in order to assist Republicans running for office in 2020, as well as for publicity about the election process, registering to vote, how to vote early, poll precincts, etc.
