Teams wanted for Chamber Trivia Bee

History, geography, sports, pop culture — it’s time to brush up on all that random, trivial knowledge floating around in the brain. Registration is now open for the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Trivia Bee, to be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Washington Civic Center.
The purpose is to raise money for the Chamber’s workforce development projects with Beaufort County Schools and Bright Futures program. For teams participating, however, there’s the chance to win a $1,000 cash prize for the school or nonprofit of their choosing.
A total of 25 teams will compete for the top prize, and Chamber Assistant Director Robin McKeithan says 10 slots are still available for three-person teams. Teams can be made up of friend groups, business coworkers, nonprofits and schools.
Now in its fifth year, the trivia bee is a continuation of a long-standing Chamber event. In years past, the Chamber would host an adult spelling bee, drawing in some of the top spellers from across the county. With teams ranging from nonprofit employees to schoolteachers, McKeithan says the competition can be intense.
“It gets very competitive,” McKeithan said. “But it’s just a fun night for the community.”
The competition itself is made up of four rounds. While all teams participate in the first three rounds, the final round is limited to the top four teams. The winner of that round is crowned the winner of the trivia bee.
“Sports, history, pop culture, science — it’s some of everything,” McKeithan said.
Teams can also purchase answer passes for $20, giving them points for questions they might not be able to answer correctly.
Those interested in testing their knowledge can download form to register for the event at www.wbcchamber.com or call 252-946-9168 for more information. The deadline to register is Nov. 7. This year’s event is sponsored by Edward Jones/Roy Parker.
