It may not be a performance by the man himself, but the three-man vocal group Shades of Bublé will bring the hits of the legendary musician Michael Bublé to the Turnage Theatre stage Thursday night.

The concert is the second in the Beaufort County Concert Association’s five-concert series.

“We’ve sold the most tickets as of last night. We thought we did well with Sons of Serendip, but this is much better. One lady called me from Burlington and they’re coming in to spend the night to see the show,” said Alma Friedman, president of BCCA.

The trio combines three-part harmonies with choreography, and a little audience participation for good measure, putting their own take on Bublé’s hits.
“Delivering a set list comprised only of songs recorded or performed live by Michael Bublé, this world-class act honors — but doesn’t imitate — the sophistication, retro style, and high-energy fun that Bublé himself brings to his concerts while engaging new fans with thrilling new vocal arrangements,” according to Live On Stage, an organization that supplies talent to concert associations nationwide.

According to the group’s bio, their name stems from the Grammy-award-winning artist’s ability to take on three musical personalities: “the ‘modern Sinatra’ who sings and swings on all the standards;” “the chart-topping pop artist who wrote ‘Home’ and ‘Haven’t Met You Yet;’” and “the rock ‘n’ roll bad-boy who reinterprets classic Motown and R&B.”

“That’s the real reason we’re getting a lot of (ticket sales) is because of him — they like his songs,” Friedman said.

Friedman said the first concert of the season, featuring Sons of Serendip, was a hit which she attributes to the array of talent and musical genres offered in the BCCA series.

“We’ve tried to get a diversity of different groups,” she said. “We’re getting really good feedback.”

The Shades of Bublé concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $30, as compared to $80 for a balcony membership for all five BCCA shows. There are no orchestra level seats available; all available seats are in the balcony. For more information about the BCCA series, visit www.gobcca.org.
