Arts of the Pamlico’s annual holiday traditions continue again this week at the historic Turnage Theatre. The theatre is aglow with lighted Christmas trees adorned with handmade ornaments, jewelry, scarves, paintings and more by member artists and art groups, which are for sale through Dec. 21.
On Friday, AOP’s first Christmas Variety Show takes the stage at 7 p.m. This free event showcases local talent directed by Rachel Isaac with costumes by Jeffery Phipps and stage management by Erin Staebell. Emcees Thad Aley, Pam Anderson and Lou Hunley will be in character from the AOP Player’s Greater Tuna production. Dancers from Moulin Rouge de Danse will perform the Christmas Caton. Beaufort County Traditional Music Association’s Linda Boyer and Bob Daw will perform Christmas songs and Bubblegum Theatre for Youth will sing out “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.” Steve Creech Jazz Band will perform tunes you know after writer Patrick Green shares a poem. Sean Jefferies will perform a beautiful tune and IC Comedy comedians will have you laughing. First come, first seated.
Them on Saturday, the Polar Express Movie Event takes place at the Turnage. Sponsored by The Rich Company, this annual tradition kicks off at noon with photos by The Rich Company’s snow-maker and an opportunity to paint your own ornament for $5. Grab some concessions and head into the theatre for this classic holiday treat. Then fill your tummy with warm cocoa, sugar cookies and a bell for all who believe will be ready for you after the movie. Tickets are $7 or $5 cash discount.
The USDA Dance Chapter takes the floor in the Turnage Gallery on Saturday evening for this holiday dance. The open dance starts at 7 p.m., with lessons offered before the singles/couples dance. $12 at the door.
Then on Sunday, come downtown for the annual Christmas concert by AOP affiliate Beaufort County Community Orchestra at 3 p.m. This concert is free. Donations for the orchestra appreciated. First come, first seated.
