CHOCOWINITY — An unbelievable start to the season continues for the Unity Christian Lady Warriors basketball team after defeating Terra Ceia, 56-24, Thursday night in Chocowinity.

From the jump, the Warriors were on the front foot. Their defensive pressure gave the Lady Knights (4-4) some problems, and it led to some easy transition baskets for the Lady Warriors early on. Unity hopped out to a 22-1 lead after the end of the first quarter. Sophomore guard Kipper Case scored all 10 of her points in the first frame to vault the Lady Warriors to a big advantage. From that point forward, Unity coasted.

After the game, head coach Harvey Case said that his team’s confidence continues to grow.

“I think we probably played our best game of the season tonight overall. Offensively, defensively, we took care of the ball and didn’t turn it over,” Case said. “I didn’t really know what to expect coming into the season, I just knew we had some girls that had a lot of potential. This is kind of what it looks like when you’re playing well, and they are, but we’re still constantly looking for things to work on after every game.”

Junior Catherine Cutler contributed with 12 points on Thursday night, and was excited about her team’s scorching start to the season.

“I was kind of blown away by how different this game was from the last one. They’re a good team and we were really close last time,” Cutler said. “We just passed so good tonight, nobody was selfish and we didn’t lose it and that was the difference. It feels really good (to be 11-0).”

Harvey Case named Paige Sawyer his player-of-the-game because of her excellent guard play and defense on Thursday.

“It’s great, we’re really hype about (being undefeated), but we do it all for God,” Sawyer said. “We had really good ball movement tonight and that’s something we’ve kind of struggled with. Our defense kind of lacked tonight, but we made up for it on offense.”

As for the Lady Knights, they turned things around in the second half and shot a lot better than the first. Carly James led Terra Ceia with eight points, Lynn Van Staalduinen had six, Hensley Jordan tallied five and Annabelle Howdy picked up two.

The Lady Warriors look to keep their undefeated season alive at home against Bethel next Thursday night, and Terra Ceia will return home Tuesday against Northeast Academy.
