Former Northside basketball standout and current NBA starting center for the Miami Heat, Bam Adebayo, is in the running for the 2020 NBA All-Star game set to take place on Feb. 16.

As it currently stands, Adebayo sits in seventh-place for frontcourt votes in the Eastern Conference.

According to Colin Ward-Henninger of CBSsports.com, Adebayo is on the list of likely reserves for the All-Star Game.

This season, Adebayo is averaging 15.6 points per game to go along with 10.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He dropped a season-high 30 points in a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 10, 2019. That turned out to be his first career triple-double-performance, as he picked up 11 rebounds and 11 assists on the night.

He tallied a season-high 16 rebounds in a matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 1.

During his time at Northside High School, Adebayo’s numbers were astounding. In his freshman season, he averaged 17.8 ppg and 19.8 rebounds per game. His sophomore campaign was much of the same, averaging 24.3 ppg and 18.2 rebounds per contest. Before transferring to High Point Christian Academy his senior season, Adebayo averaged 32.2 points per game and 21 rebounds as a junior.

Adebayo is the all-time leader in the state of North Carolina in rebounds in a high school career, and second in NCHSAA history. High Point Christian was a member of the NCISAA.

With the current voting format, the NBA fan vote selects the two captains and they will select from the most voted players by the fans. Even if Adebayo is in the top votes, he is not guaranteed a spot on either team.

For example, last season, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks was voted second in backcourt voting for the Western Conference, but was not selected by either captain, Lebron James or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Captains are the two highest voted players from each conference, and they will then select their team in a snake-like draft environment. Conferences are completely off the table from that point, as they can select a player from either conference to be on their team.

Doncic and Antetokounmpo currently lead the voting for their respective conference, and would be captains if the voting ended today.
