In the wake of a deadly act of domestic violence in Aurora earlier this week, a fundraiser has been established to help pay for the victim’s funeral expenses and to help support her two young children.

On Tuesday, Alisha Morgan, 25, was kidnapped from her workplace by 31-year-old Craig Lamont Sawyer, the father of her 1-year-old child. Morgan’s mother, Donna Morgan Cabe, reported the abduction to authorities, who responded to Sawyer’s home on Austin Road.

After about an hour and a half of communication between Sawyer and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies, gunshots were heard from inside the house. Breaching the door, deputies found both Morgan and Sawyer suffering from gunshot wounds from a 40-caliber handgun. The two were pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities suspect an upcoming custody battle between the two may have been the motive for the crime.

Morgan was the mother of two young boys, ages 1 and 5, who will now be taken care of by Cabe, their grandmother. With the hope of helping the boys and the family, Morgan’s cousin, Candis Jones, has organized a Gofundme page in Cabe’s name.

“(Morgan) was working to support her family when she was kidnapped and later murdered by her child’s father,” the GoFundme page reads. “Alisha was just starting to live her life with the hopes of becoming an awesome mom to her two little boys.”

So far, the fundraiser has raised $1,305 of a $20,000 goal, with 24 people donating as of Thursday afternoon. In all of its fundraisers, Gofundme provides donor protections and guarantees delivery of funds to the beneficiary. For Morgan’s family, every little bit donated is important.

“Now her boys will be left here without their mother in the care of their grandmother,” the page continues. “Please help the family with funeral experience and a fund for her boys. Anything will help.”
