Bath’s Cahoon leading the charge for the Lady Pirates

Through Bath Elementary School’s basketball season, O.J. Cahoon has been a mark of consistency for the Lady Pirates. She has already broken school records, and eyes a few more as the seventh grader’s confidence continues to grow.

The school record for points in a game by a seventh grader was 20 points, but Cahoon has topped that a couple of times this season. One of those occasion was against their rivals at Northeast Elementary earlier this season.

In that game, Bath faced a 15-point deficit in the closing quarter, but Cahoon willed her team back into the game with 10 straight points from fast break layups.

Cahoon explained that she is looking to break the school record for points in a game by an eighth grader, in her seventh grade season.

“My teammates have been helping me. They’ve been really nice to me and given me a lot of inspiration. When we come out and play a good first half, it inspires me to come out and play even harder in the second half, which is when I usually score most of my points,” Cahoon said after Monday night’s victory. “I got the record for points scored in a game by a seventh grader with 20, but I’m trying to beat the record for points in a game for an eighth grader while I’m in seventh grade, which is 25.”

Cahoon’s current career-high for points in a game is 21.

On Monday night in the Lady Pirates’ game against Snowden, Cahoon was at the top of her game once again. When she wasn’t scoring, she was getting her teammates involved and playing tight defense, forcing plenty of Snowden turnovers on the evening.

Bath began the game scoring 22 points without allowing a single basket, and took a 24-1 lead into halftime.

Cahoon went on to score 15 points with five assists on the night en route to a 35-9 victory.

“She’s a beast,” Bath girls’ basketball head coach Tiffany Mikva said about Cahoon. “She is a part of our team, she does a good job of helping lead the team. Some of the other girls on the team that may be struggling with something, she goes and helps them out with it. The team has done a really good job of coming together and has been practicing hard.”

With only two games left, Bath’s main goal is to win their remaining games this season. They host St. Peters’ green team this evening, and travel to G.R. Whitfield on Thursday night for their season finale. Both games will tip-off at 4 p.m.
